I want to live in a watermelon house! I know that might be problematic given the whole stereotype about Black folks and watermelon but I don't care. That place looks awesome.

Thanks, Dani. You never know what you're going to see when you're out driving or walking or biking, which is why I had to get a point-and-shoot so I'd never be without a camera. I have no idea who lives here but I love their creative ownership of their space.

I wanna house like that!! dad would you ever get a house like that?

Yep. Betcha ain't no black peopleses in dat house. ;)

I wonder if the neighbors appreciate the whimsy. (There are, after all, plenty of communities where the neighbors would meet and vote to force the owners to repaint it.)

But I love it, too. I'd live there -- no doubt.

Great photo.

Kisakinosuki, if we ever bought a house that wasn't restricted by homeowner association covenants, I would definitely let you (encourage you even) to paint our house in whatever design(s) you wanted. Otherwise, what's the point of being an artist?

deeceevoice, you're probably right, although this is a more whimsical, Peter Max-like re-invention of house painting, and I support it.

It's not like having lawn jockeys out front like some houses do in my neck of the woods, which definitely crosses my 'offensivity' line.

I live about a block away and this really nice gay couple lives there. I talked to one of them and he said that when they painted the house red the side wall came out a nasty pink so they just added the watermelon because they wanted to be creative and make it look better. He also added that it was because they were "big fruits". Corny joke but it explains it.
