Wintry Mix

Early morning Ice in the street

Winter's trending down here in DC and we have yet to have more than an inch of snow. All we seem to have earned is the dreaded 'wintry mix,' freezing rain & sleet, the lavender expanses on the TV weather maps, while everyone else gets the 'white stuff.'

We've had the usually hystrionics by the local meteorologists warning of impending apocalyptic snowfalls headed our way but they have all brushed past us to the North, some even to the South. North Carolina has received more snowfall than DC this winter. Hell, even Hotlanta got snow.

I feel cheated, and with only 3 more weeks until April I am not optimistic that we will make up for lost time this winter. The Cherry Blossoms will be in bloom this year starting March 27th.

I like the photo with the steel-gray sky reflected in the pavement ice. Nice. :)

But I hated the ice on the night of the DC primary. Fell flat on my butt -- twice in quick succession -- in the same spot on the sidewalk, so I gave up and decided to take my chances dodging traffic. And I crept home in the the same way -- in the street.

Nope. Not feelin' your snow deprivation blues at all. It looks like warmer weather has set in to stay -- and I couldn't be more pleased. I'm doin' my happy dance -- on the ice-free sidewalk -- to Nina Simone's, "Here Comes the Sun" in my head:

"It's been a long, cold, lonely winter. It seems like years since you've been here. Here comes the sun, little darlin'. Here comes the sun. I say it's all right. It's all right."

Yep. The thaw is on, Curmudgeon. Don't fight it. Winter's dead. Long live spring! :)
